Wow! I've been to Italy so many times and have used Laura's books as guides. Italy has some amazing "made by hand" by talented artisans. Don't let people pester you. Go where Laura recommends.
★★★★★ Essential reading for a trip to Italy

For travelers who return to Italy and tourists who enjoy learning about the history and arts of Italy, this is a great alternative to the usual guide books. The book highlights different areas of Italy, listing towns offering traditional crafts and artisans practicing techniques handed down for centuries. The author has an easy to read style and engages the reader. Having traveled to Italy more than 25 times, I can't recommend this compact volume highly enough.
★★★★★ Changed the way I shop

I visited Italy twice before I read this book & came home with nothing more than mere trinkets. After reading Laura's book, I paid another visit to Italy where I luxuriated in shopping for Burano lace, Murano glass, handmade Venetian masks, inlaid wood from Sorrento, etc. Mementos that I will cherish for a lifetime. I was THRILLED to see that Laura has updated this book!! It comes with a free download that lists the artisans and where they are located! Each section gives a bit of history about each craft too, along with what to look for. Don't shop in Italy without this book!
